Special Features

We offer a range of special features that are designed to enhance any pattern imprinted paving.

Rather than installing pre-cast concrete steps, we can shape the concrete to match any pattern imprinted paving. This allows you to be more creative in the designs that you choose.

Crack Control Joints

Crack control joints are designed to minimise the risk of cracking. The control joints are straight diamond cuts through the slab at points considered to be a weakness. Any cracks that do occur are usually natural and small and the crack control joints will prevent them from developing any further.

The concrete can be laid all year round although the process may take longer in the winter when it is colder.

To keep your new surface looking its best we recommend re-sealing every 18 – 24 months. The sealant will wear away as time goes by, and the rate of wear will depend on the amount of use. If this happens the coloured surface of the concrete will be exposed to wear. To prevent the coloured surface wearing thin and eventually being worn away, your surface should be re-sealed as appropriate. The sealant on regularly used driveways will wear away a lot quicker than the sealant on patios that only have minimal footfall. So driveways would need to be monitored for sealant wear more than patios.

The colours do not fade but should they appear to look dull, resealing the concrete will brighten up the colours again. The specifications we use minimise cracking but if a crack does develop, it will almost always remain barely visible.

Crack control joints are recommended by British Standards and are cut in at regular intervals. They are cut to a depth of 25% of the slab. If a crack should occur, it would follow the direction of the weakened points so that the crack never becomes visible, and the crack control joint itself is filled with mastic.

It is recommended to wait 24-48 hours for pedestrian traffic, 6 days before you drive a car on it and 48 days for heavy goods vehicles.

The process can create dust particularly when windy but any dust will be washed away before we leave.

We strongly advise against painting.
